A dozen years ago, realizing this challenge of finding consistent good quality from Sumatra, as well as from Java, Sulawesi and other islands, we established our organization in the United States with the initial goal of providing great and true Sumatra and Java greens to specialty roasters in the U.S.
Since we are buying ripe cherry and wet parchment, we are essentially a manufacturing or production organization. A coffee production. So, we can perhaps call ourselves a coffee producer who extend our arms to also manage our own export, import, finance and storage.
We picked our company name as Sriwijaya Coffee simply was a spontaneous name selection and because it is part of our history and this name has also been used by thousands other organizations out there that we are surely not affiliated with. Sriwijaya (or Srivijaya) comes from a powerful Buddhist ancient kingdom in southern part of Sumatra in the 13th century. In Sanskrit language, the word Sri means “shining”, and Wijaya (derived from the word of Vijay in Hindi) means “excellence”. Excellence in green coffee quality and consistency that we supply to you is what we strive to achieve and maintain.
MMajority of our green offerings come from the Northern Sumatra region, including around the Lake Toba villages and from the Gayo Highlands. We ensure that our greens are processed properly and consistently from harvesting until they are shipped to your roasteries. We are confident that we provide value added services to our customers by providing this, basically production processes, control on the quality of our greens that we supply.
For our dancing beans, we purposely do not blend our Sumatras with different district ones and not to mention with non-Sumatra. These greens are the small lots Single Origin uniquely presented from certain villages in the Sumatra Island.
We also regularly offer greens from Java, occasionally also from Celebes (or Sulawesi), and Timor. We have operations at those islands keep on processing uniquely great coffees. During our journeys we have built sustainable relationships with local farmers at different coffee growing regions that stand on the principles of additional, instead of substitution. This means, when we like a particular coffee, we then approach the farmers to offer them another opportunity to sell their beans to.
In addition to the above, we also love nature and its big trees, so it is our regular effort to promote conservation and sustainability to be part of our culture. We care about what seem to be small or simple things such as waste management, water and energy conservation and the reasons why we do these things, as part of our care to others.
Since our inception, we have worked with coffee roasters throughout Midwest and Eastern part of the United States. We store our greens at two warehouses, in the Midwest and in the East Coast. . We value long-term relationship with our customers as their success is eventually ours as well. We look forward to working with you on your Far East green bean needs.
